Products & Nutrition

What products does Vegie Magic make?

We make a wide range of vegetable-based products, mainly for foodservice, hospitality and catering businesses. Our range includes vegie patties, schnitzels, hash browns, sliders and more, with vegetarian, vegan-friendly and Allergen Free choices for burgers, breakfasts, salads, sides, snacks and share plates.

For people to enjoy at home, we supply our homestyle vegie patties and selected gluten-free vegan patties, through independent supermarkets, butchers and delis.

What do you mean by naturally plant-based?

Our products are made primarily from natural or minimally processed foods, so we describe them as naturally plant-based. You can see the vegetables and the colour, texture and variety they bring. Keeping real foods at the centre also allows them to contribute plant protein, fibre, vitamins, minerals and plant compounds to your diet.

What are minimally processed foods?

Minimally processed foods remain recognisably close to the foods they started as. They may be washed, peeled, chopped, cooked, chilled, frozen, dried or ground to make them safe, convenient and easier to use, while retaining recognisable ingredients and much of the food’s natural colour, texture and nutritional value.

By contrast, the FAO describes ultra-processed foods as products formulated mostly or entirely from substances extracted from foods or derived from food components, often using additives to imitate or enhance qualities such as flavour, colour and texture. This is the distinction that matters to us: Vegie Magic products are made primarily from recognisable vegetables, legumes and grains rather than being built mainly from isolated proteins, extracts and additives.

Why are minimally processed foods better for you?

Minimally processed foods are generally a better foundation for your diet because they make it easier to eat a varied range of nutrient-dense foods while limiting excess free sugars, sodium and unhealthy fats. A diet built around vegetables, legumes, whole grains and other minimally processed foods supports good nutrition, digestive health and long-term cardiovascular and metabolic health. We aim to help people eat more of these foods by turning vegetables, legumes and grains into tasty, convenient products that are easy to include in everyday meals.

What is a Health Star Rating?

The Health Star Rating is an Australian and New Zealand front-of-pack system that rates the nutritional profile of packaged foods from half a star to five stars. It is designed to help people compare similar products, with more stars indicating a healthier choice within that product category. We display the Health Star Rating for every Vegie Magic product on our website to make its nutritional profile easier to understand and compare. It is a useful guide, but should be considered alongside the ingredients, dietary information and the food’s overall role in your diet.

Are Vegie Magic products suitable for vegetarians?

Yes. Every Vegie Magic product is suitable for vegetarians. Vegetarian foods contain no meat, poultry, fish or seafood, although they may include dairy or eggs. Some Vegie Magic products contain vegetarian dairy cheese made without animal rennet. We do not use eggs in any of our products or anywhere in our facility. Visit the Australian Vegetarian Society’s FAQ for answers to common questions about vegetarianism.

What do you mean by Allergen Free?

We describe a product as Allergen Free when it contains no ingredients that require mandatory allergen declaration under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.

This does not mean it is free from every food that could cause an allergic reaction. Almost any food can be an allergen for a susceptible person. Examples not currently included in the mandatory declaration list include mustard, celery, buckwheat, coconut, seeds other than sesame, and legumes such as chickpeas, lentils and peas. Some people may also react to particular fruits, vegetables, herbs or spices. Anyone with a diagnosed food allergy should check the full ingredient information for the exact product. Our product filters can also be used to identify products that contain or may contain any of the mandatory allergens.

For Foodservice

How do I order Vegie Magic products for my menu?

You usually won’t need to change the way you buy. Start with the foodservice distributor you already use and ask them about the Vegie Magic product you want. Our product pages list the relevant product codes, and our Distributor Finder shows which distributors supply Vegie Magic in your area.

If your distributor does not currently stock the product, contact us and we can help with the enquiry. If you do not have an existing foodservice distributor, we can help you identify a suitable supplier and the best way to purchase for your business. Your distributor will confirm current pricing, availability and delivery arrangements.

Can you help me choose products and develop my menu?

Yes. Tell us what you are trying to achieve—whether that is adding a vegie burger, catering for several dietary needs, finding one product that can work across several dishes, or choosing a format that suits your kitchen and service style.

We can help you compare suitable products, explore menu applications and cooking methods, provide current specifications and certification documents, and discuss samples for genuine foodservice opportunities. We can also work with your distributor or help you identify a suitable supply option.

How can you help me run a more efficient foodservice operation?

Vegie Magic takes much of the preparation out of adding vegetables, legumes and grains to your menu. Our ready-to-cook products reduce peeling, chopping, mixing and portioning, while providing consistent serves and versatile plant-based choices across different dishes and dayparts. This helps you respond to customer demand without adding unnecessary labour, waste or complexity.

Can you help make catering for different dietary needs easier?

Catering for different dietary needs should not mean serving a second-best option. Every Vegie Magic product is vegetarian, most are vegan friendly, and the range includes gluten-free and Allergen Free choices. Because they are designed first and foremost to taste good, one well-chosen product can often be enjoyed by everyone—not just people with a specific dietary requirement.

This makes it easier to create inclusive menus with fewer separate ingredients, less preparation and less waste. Use our product filters to find suitable options, or contact us for help choosing the right products for your menu.

What product information and documentation can you provide?

We provide the practical information you need to assess, approve and use our products with confidence. This includes current product specifications, ingredient and allergen information, nutrition panels, cooking and storage instructions, shelf life, pack formats, carton details and distributor product codes.

Vegie Magic products are made in our SQF-certified facility under independently audited food safety and quality systems, and are Halal certified by the Islamic Coordinating Council of Victoria. Our products are also Kosher suitable, although they are not Kosher certified.

Can you develop custom products for foodservice and QSR businesses?

Yes. We develop and manufacture custom vegetable-based products for larger foodservice businesses, multi-site operators and national quick-service restaurant chains. We have more than 15 years of continuous experience supplying QSR customers nationally.

Custom development depends on the product type, ingredient and allergen requirements, expected volumes and fit with our manufacturing capabilities. We can explore flavour, format, portion size, dietary needs and distribution requirements.

Where can I buy Vegie Magic products near me?

Selected Vegie Magic retail patties are available from independent supermarkets, delis and butchers. Some stores sell them in branded tray packs from the chiller, while others offer individual patties from the deli or butcher counter, with or without Vegie Magic branding.

To find a retailer near you, send us a stockist enquiry with your town or suburb, postcode and the product you are looking for. We will help identify nearby stores.

Because independent retailers choose their own range, order quantities and delivery schedules, availability can vary between stores. Our chilled patties contain no preservatives, so retailers generally order regularly to maintain freshness and minimise food waste. Occasionally, a particular product may sell out before the next delivery.

If you cannot locate the product in store, ask at the deli counter, refrigerated section or speak with the store manager. They can confirm where it is stocked, when the next delivery is expected or whether they can order it for you. If your local store no longer carries the product, send us the store name, suburb and product you want, and we will help look for another nearby option.

Which Vegie Magic products can I buy for home?

For home, you can buy five Vegie Magic burger patties: Classic Vegie, Cheese & Vegie, Chickpea & Lentil, Gluten Free Vegie and Beetroot & Quinoa.

Our homestyle vegie patties include Classic Vegie, Cheese & Vegie, and Chickpea & Lentil. Generous, full-flavoured and packed with visible ingredients, they have the colour, texture and irregular homemade character you would expect from a pattie made in your own kitchen—you really can see and taste the difference. Our signature Classic Vegie Pattie has been enjoyed by Australians since the mid-1980s. Homestyle patties are available in branded tray packs or individually from selected deli and butcher counters, sometimes without Vegie Magic branding.

Our gluten-free vegan patties include Gluten Free Vegie and Beetroot & Quinoa. Made mostly from a colourful mix of vegetables, they are full of flavour and designed to be enjoyed by everyone—not only people following gluten-free or vegan diets. Available in branded tray packs, they are an easy option for burgers, salads, snacks and everyday meals.

Can I buy a Vegie Magic product I have eaten at a restaurant or café?

Possibly, but only a small selection of our foodservice products are available to buy for home. We make a much more diverse range for restaurants, cafés, caterers and other foodservice customers, and many of these products are made specifically for commercial use.

Our retail range currently includes our Homestyle Vegie Patties—Classic Vegie, Chickpea & Lentil and Cheese & Vegie—and two of our gluten-free vegan patties—Gluten Free Vegie and Beetroot & Quinoa. To find out whether they are available in your area, send us a stockist enquiry.

What is the best way to cook Vegie Magic patties at home?

There is no single best way—Vegie Magic patties are wonderfully versatile. Use a sandwich press for a quick, lightly crisp result, pan-fry or barbecue them for golden edges, bake or air-fry them for easy hands-off cooking, or microwave them when time is short.

A preheated sandwich press is one of the quickest and easiest methods. It heats the pattie evenly, gives the outside a lightly crisp texture and requires little or no added oil. As a guide, cook a chilled or thawed 150g pattie for approximately 5–6 minutes and our 100g patties for 3-4 minutes. From frozen, allow an additional 3–4 minutes.

Cooking times vary with pattie size, starting temperature and appliance. Whichever method you choose, heat the pattie until it is steaming throughout and the centre reaches at least 75°C.

How should I store Vegie Magic patties, and can I freeze them?

Keep Vegie Magic patties refrigerated at 5°C or colder, or freeze them on the day of purchase if you are not planning to use them straight away.

Our branded tray packs are supplied chilled and clearly marked with a use-by date. Store them in the refrigerator and cook and enjoy them before that date, unless you freeze them first.

When buying individual patties from a deli or butcher counter, ask the retailer for the use-by date. If this information is not available, keep them refrigerated and use them within two days of purchase, or freeze them on the day of purchase.

All our retail patties can be frozen. Keep them well wrapped or in a sealed container and use within six months.

Patties can be thawed in the refrigerator before cooking or cooked from frozen. Once thawed, cook them promptly and do not refreeze. Always cook and heat Vegie Magic patties thoroughly before eating.

What is Vegie Magic?

Vegie Magic makes healthier eating enjoyable, accessible and easier to fit into busy everyday lives. Made in Melbourne, our products help people enjoy a wider variety of plant-based foods more often and reduce their meat intake.

What makes Vegie Magic products special?

We don't try to make vegetables behave like meat. We create products people choose because they taste good, are easy to use and bring something different to the plate. Made with recognisable ingredients, they add variety and nutritional value across meals, snacks, share plates, sides and menu items throughout the day—not simply as a substitute for meat.

Where are Vegie Magic products made?

Vegie Magic products are made in Dandenong, Victoria, by Birubi Foods—the Australian manufacturer behind the brand. We have been making vegie patties and other convenient vegie foods for more than 20 years for restaurants, cafés, caterers, hospitals, aged-care providers and quick-service restaurants (QSRs), as well as for retail sale through independent supermarkets, delis and butchers.
